1. Incorporate language into your daily activities
. Listen to YouTube favourite channel, live streams online, like Bloomberg, Sky News, Spanish RTVE, German T
agesschau. You need to have laptop or any other device and internet connection. I do have contact with foreign languages every single day. I do my work on laptop and at the same time I listen to Bloomberg Surveillance show broadcasted every day online and uploaded to the Bloomberg site: https://www.bloomberg.com/news/videos/2020-08-14/-bloomberg-surveillance-full-show-08-14-2020-video - In the link you can find the latest show. I love this programme. Finance, economics, politics are covered in show with great journalists, anchors and analysts in lively and enthusiastic style. Believe or not, I have fun watching that every single time, because journalists love what are they doing and it makes Bloomberg Surveillance special. The others streams I follow are: German Tagesschau and Spanish RTVE providing news. They are bit different, but valuable at the same time.

You don’t have to follow business channel to learn. If you love F1 and video games, you should follow Aarava on YouTube. He plays F1 game and speak at the same time, analyze races, performance of cars, teams, drivers, he’s building his own team in the game and gives fascinating insights on F1 world. Fun is the key factor. If you are an artist, follow and listen to Angela Anderson on YouTube while you paint. If you love football, watch the match in language you want to learn.

You will be able to study in this kind of environment. Otherwise, it will be a struggle, hardship and painful experience.

2. To be able to listen you need to learn basics. You need to listen one of of the YouTube channels on A1 and A2 levels in language you want to learn. These courses are funny and you should be able to learn quickly. Try to repeat entire phrases and sentences while you listens to tutors and speakers in language you study. The language is way of thinking and the sound. Spanish sounds completely different than German or English. You need to be able to emulate those sounds. Practice makes perfect. Don’t be frustrated, if your German or Italian is not perfect - it takes time to learn. Step by step approach is the key and you should listen to those courses on regular basis, but not for long. It should last not longer than 30 minutes. Otherwise, you would be overloaded and discouraged. Self-motivation is vital, consistency is the key.

3. You need to use what you learnt. Try to speak in foreign language to your friend, family member or to yourself. Self-talk has bad reputation, however you need to speak a lot to learn. Speaking will give you self-confidence, the key to speak to foreigner in his or her language you learnt. You have trust to your family members. Try to encourage one of them to study with you. Have a fun together. By repeating the entire phrases, you make massive progress.

Conclusion

Listen to YouTube show while you are at home, like you listen to music. Learn basics on YouTube channels. I was using this stream to study German some time ago:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HKMDLvvISm0 - studying basics shouldn’t be painful experience. It should be funny, not boring. Repeat what you’ve learnt to your friend or by yourself and have fun.
