In this post, I’ll give you
3 tips, which will help you overcome the frustration regarding studying the
foreign language. Let’s begin!
1. You cannot be overloaded. You need to spend 30-40 minutes each day, even 15, not hours on studying!
Many people think they will learn language overnight. They’re wrong. If you set up the business for example, you need time to learn new things, learn on mistakes you’ve made, make conclusions, how to invest money and make money. It takes time and it is never ending story. You just cannot give it up, otherwise, you would fail.
To learn new language, you need time. Each language is different way of thinking, it sounds different than any other language. You need to spend a lot of time to learn new things and to be familiar with new environment. Compare English to Spanish and German. These languages sound completely different. 3 languages, three different way of thinking.
When I was teenager, I thought I cannot learn English and others foreign language. I was overloaded, overwhelmed and my self-belief could be far better. However, I never gives it up and after I graduated I've been listening to English and Spanish every single day. Recently, I do a lot considering my German to improve my skills. It took me years to succeed, not months or days.
When someone tells you, you will learn new language in 3 months, it is not true to say at least. You still need to listen to foreign language on regular basis often, everyday ideally for years to come, like your native language. If you understand that, it will be much easier. Expectations should be realistic. It doesn’t matter, you shouldn’t be bold, however you need to be pragmatic, not dreamer.
2. Self belief is essential.
I remember my conversation with my dad and with one of my English teacher at university. They told me, I will not be able to succeed in my group, which was advanced and I was only pre-intermediate. They were wrong. I made the job done and improve my communication skills in foreign language by step by step approach and studying every single day in advanced group where I had the opportunity to listen to discussions of my peers and teacher, not small talks.
If I hadn’t attended advanced group, I would have not done progress. I would have been in worse group of speakers and I would not have made goals and reach them.
I succeeded because I was ambitious not overconfident however. It was calculated risk, not a gamble. I was trying to improve, to make progress, not to learn overnight.
Everyone of us can learn new language. When someone tell you: you cannot do it, he or she is wrong and it is harmful and abusive is my opinion.
3. To learn you need to have fun and in order to do it, you just cannot focus on one thing, you need to be creative.
I listen to business show on Twitter, F1 YouTubers for fun, World Endurance Races online, Alex Kava’s audio books, Spanish and German television. I’m never bored and still I look for new things on my business online in foreign language. I use my native language only when I have to with my family, friends and in workplace.
Conclusion
Spend 15 minutes not 150 minutes per day, be ambitious, not overconfident and have fun by watching different things. Try to use the new language as the device to grow your business online, for example ecommerce, to meet new people, to watch movie, read book you want to read, or watch NBA.
