It’s better to watch F1 or football coverage on TV than making thousands of useless grammar exercises and memorizing words from dictionary.

When I was a kid and student at the university I had to do thousands of grammar exercises and rewrite words from articles on Times and others newspapers. It is the waste of time and even more importantly it is discouraging. I was doing so, I had no alternative. Believe or not, I needed to take extra English classes to pass high-school certificate. I knew rules, however I wasn’t able to speak fluently. Thankfully, I passed the exam, but my speaking was dreadful.

Listening and repeating phrases and sentences improve your skills.

When I attended English classes at University, I was struggling to speak due to lack of confidence, knowledge and experience needed to talk. However, teacher was American and he was talkative person. He’s still talkative. I had for the first time opportunity to listen to English on regular basis. It gave me a lot.

Watching CNN and the BBC World News.

When I graduated from college I started to follow news coverage on CNN and BBC News on regular basis, everyday for one news bulletin, which lasts 25 minutes.

Step by step

My English was better and better. I gained confidence, which is essential to talk to others in English or any other foreign language. I have the same experience with Spanish and German. School didn’t deliver. I had to make things happen by myself.

Currently, I am able to speak in four different languages: Polish, English, German and Spanish. My life has changed significantly. If you learn other language, you are able to meet new people, gain more knowledge on any topic you can imagine and even more importantly, you start to believe everything is possible and you become successful in business environment and family life.

Conclusion

Studying makes sense if you have a fun doing so. The language is used to describe what is happening on the football pitch. Learn and have fun with that!
