Manchester United 1:3 Crystal Palace. Painful experience

When I was growing up Manchester United have been winning everything in England and from time to time in Europe. These days are over however and reality is miserable. Solskjaer players are not able to stop Crystal Palace. Credit to Palace, they deserved to win at Old Trafford, legendary Theatre of Dreams. The Theatre of Dreams became nightmare for Manchester United since Alex Ferguson left the club in 2013. Legendary manager was serving for the club over 27 years. I wasn’t even born when he started. Manchester United were the leading force of English football since 1990s. Beckham, Giggs, Scholes, Keane, Neville brothers, Butt, Cole, Yorke, Irwin, Pallister, Sheringham, Solskjaer, Johnsen and Schmeichel were setting a tone of English football. Then Cristiano Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney came in the mid 2000s and United clinched second European title in 2008. First they won in 1999 after late drama in Barcelona against Bayern Munich. Sir Alex Ferguson won 13 Premier League titles, five FA cup, 2 Uefa Champions League. 38 trophies between 1986 and 2013. It was the golden era of Manchester United. The boss created three of even four great teams in his era at Old Trafford. His team played always with desire to win. They wanted to win badly. They were well organized and team spirit was determining factor considering the success of Ferguson. They were never sloppy, careless with or without the ball. They needed to operate as compacted formation and group, they didn’t have Messi and even team which has been built around Ronaldo was strong enough to stop any team in England and in Europe. They were solid and hard working.

Legendary manager has been watching last Manchester United Premier League fixture against Crystal Palace from grandstands. What could he think about? His team has been struggling since he retired in 2013. Manchester United spent 968 million of British pounds since Ferguson departure in 2013. Currently, they are not able to fight for Champions League spot.

They are poor in transition. They simply don’t come back in transition. They are vulnerable. Counter attack against Manchester United is not difficult to be executed. They are powerless with ball. They simply don’t know what to do with the ball. It lasts since 2013. It is 2020 and they didn’t improve.

It’s easy to say it is a fault of the manager, but I wonder, whether players are professional or not. The lack of effort, chaos and powerless are visible to anyone watching Manchester United these days.

It is embarrassing, very embarrassing for fans like me. The quality is there. Martial, Rashford and Pogba could do better.
