Barca 1:1 Sevilla. Barca, Real Madrid, Sevilla and Atletico fight for the La Liga title in 2020/21 season
Barcelona
and Sevilla played a decent game of football last night at Camp Nou. Both teams
created chances to score more goals and win, however both teams have been
playing better considering defense.
Barcelona closed down Sevilla quickly, they were cautious over the entire game. Despite the best efforts, they lost the goal due to set piece. However, they responded quickly and Coutinho scored. Barcelona will be the winning force, if they will be able to press hard their opponents while they don’t have the possession. Interceptions lead to goal scoring chances. Koeman laid the foundations for new Barcelona. They are improved in defense. Well disciplined and hard working Barcelona will be improving all the time in offense as well, having players like: Messi, Fati and Griezmann. Frankie de Jong plays like the captain with years of experience.
However, Barcelona president needs to go to transfer market. The club needs number 9. There is no player in the box, like Luis Suarez ready to play one versus one and score. The lack of number 9 is visible. Additionally, Barcelona will need to have high depth of squad. They are lacking that right now. Alba is injured and they don’t have world class player to replace him.
Barca are in transition and it will take time to turn things around, although they made progress in defense. It is promising, but not near enough to challenge for the title in Europe. They are in contention in La Liga.
Sevilla, Atletico and Real Madrid are the opposition Barca will have to play against this season with high intensity and desire to win.
I think, the intensity has to be much higher to win against top teams in Europe. However, without 22-25 top players at least and two number 9, it would not be possible and this season may be another disappointment, although they lost only one goal in first three fixtures of the La Liga season. It is the key to win La Liga. Consistency will be determining factor. We have congested calendar due to upcoming European Championship in 2021, delayed because of the pandemic last Summer.
High depth lineups, fitness, consistency and team chemistry seem to be key points of this season. I’ve noticed also Coutinho and others played much better, while there are no fans at grandstands. It will be the key playing away from home this season. Barcelona would have suffered considering mentality and pressure, if fans had been around on Camp Nou and more importantly, in away fixtures. Partisan Spanish crowd would have not been helpful for Fati, de Jong and Coutinho, particularly away.
Barcelona introduced diagonal long balls to their football this year, bit like Sevilla over the years. It creates another dimension considering their football. They have great wingers, like Fati, Roberto and Alba. They need to use them, play a bit wider, creating more space to play forward. I like one touch football of Barcelona. Their technical skills are impressive, but intensity needs to be higher to win every single time they are playing. It requires fitness and high depth of the squad.
They need to look onto transfer market to purchase forwards. Luis Suarez should not be allowed to leave to club, he was asked to do so and he reinforced Atletico, the team, which is the arch rival of FC Barcelona.
La Liga delivers, particularly considering technical skills of players, like any other league in Europe and tactics is not the most important thing, therefore La Liga provides wonderful entertainment in these difficult times.
