Barcelona lost El Clasico. Real were far better than Catalan club

Barcelona disappointed their fans around the world losing El Clasico, the greatest game in European football. I’ve been following the coverage in Polish CANAL+ and during the match I thought the referee made several mistakes leading to Real victory over Barcelona on bizarre La Liga fixture without fans allowed to enter the stadium for the first time in El Clasico. This kind of fixture is pure emotion, not football match. While I had been following the game, I thought, the rivalry between Barcelona and Real is the most important thing on the planet, not politics, or pandemic.

However, I analyzed all decisions made by the referee and I have to admit, those decisions were correct, but inconsistent and it is the major issue of La Liga.

Fati equalized the game after opening goal of Valverde, nextly Ramos scored and Modric. Barcelona 1:3 Real at Camp Nou. Barcelona were sloppy, careless with the ball, they were losing the possession all the time. Midfielders were performing poorly. Barcelona is not good enough in the buildup, setup and it is bizarre, particularly at Camp Nou, when they usually dominate. Zidane’s tactic was far better than Koeman’s. Real were sharp and aggressive, forcing Barca to make silly mistakes and turnovers, which led to chances for Los Blancos.

Real are not the best team in Europe however, they have their own problems. The club is good enough to win La Liga, but it lacks quality in every formation and as the team – they rely on youngsters and role players. Typical team in transition. The lack of strategy on the transfer market is noticeable and it will be harmful to Real over the long term.

Real are not perfect, they are simply better than poor Barca team. Barca have been playing like last year. Their dependency on Leo Messi reminds me Argentina national team last years. They rely on Messi and Fati, their individual skills, there is no concept of playing football, like 10 years ago, when Pep Guardiola implemented tika-taka style in Barcelona. Barca are poor with the ball and without the ball. They should improve however over the long term, working on the training ground with Ronald Koeman, but they lack offensive midfielders, play-makers and central forwards.

I enjoy El Clasico however, as always Barca and Real provide great entertainment and emotions.
