Manchester United lost fixture against Arsenal
on Sunday, at Old Trafford in Manchester. Arsenal did enough to win and it was
well-deserved win. Arteta had better tactics than Ole Gunnar Solskjaer,
Manchester United manager.
Arsenal played far better than sloppy Manchester United at Old Trafford, but I cannot help thinking, if they had faced Bayern, City, Liverpool, PSG, Juve, Barca, they would not have won, but it doesn’t matter. They have been closing down Red Devils quickly, not allowing Manchester United to create chances. Greenwood and Rashford were powerless due to work ethic and discipline of the Arsenal defense over the entire ninety minutes. They created opportunities to score and finally Pogba challenge on Bellerin led to penalty and goal scored by Aubameyang. Credit to team from London.
Manchester United struggle from the beginning of the season to play consistently. They could play like Champions League contenders against mighty Paris Saint-Germain in Paris and poorly against Palace, Spurs and Arsenal. It is difficult to explain that, but as I previously said on my blog, Manchester United should rely on the counter attacks, they would never emulate Alex Ferguson’s Manchester United from the past - they are fit, they are quick in transition, but they have no clue, what to do with the ball, if they have the possession for the long time. They rely on individual skills on Fred, Pogba, Rashford, Greenwood, Martial, Fernandes and rest of the team, basically, because they have high quality players in the lineup, but the set up and build up are terrible. The only way Manchester United could be winning force is counter attack, not useless possessions, while Red Devils pass the ball forward to their opponents or sideways. They need to come back in the transition, but they are not doing so for some reason.
Media should not be focused so much on manager and Paul Pogba, team leader, transfer market, current squad. They should pay attention on work ethic and discipline. Manchester United could sign Messi, Ronaldo and Dybala and they would not be winning, because they are not the team or group, playing passing football and having possession, they are only eleven individuals and stars on the pitch. They are not playing team football, with each other, like in Fergie era with much weaker players, like Gary Neville or John O’Shea.
Mindset needs to be changed in Manchester. Otherwise, they would not win any trophy this season, despite massive potential of the players.
